A Literature Review to assist the development of  Neighbourhood Renewal Strategies on the Atherton Gardens Estate Fitzroy

Safety and security are high on the agenda of people in all communities within Australia and indeed across the world.  People seek to live at home, use public space (parks or streets) and transport and/or to actively participate in the life of their neighbourhood and community without fear or risk of being a victim of violence or crime.  Where there is crime it impacts directly on the quality of life of citizens and has a serious negative impact on the most vulnerable groups in our society (women, children, the poor).  Safety and security should be considered as fundamental rights and are essential to the civic
vitality and good governance.
