Safety and Security Working Group newsletter October

Some notes from the last Collingwood Safety Working Group meeting 2/Oct/09

Unfortunately the Commissioner Simon Overland was unable to attend our meeting as scheduled due to operational commitments and a very busy time for the Victorian Police this week !

However the Commissioner apologizes and that he will reschedule when he can.

The CSWG have extended there invitation and welcome the Commissioner to attend and meet with us all when possible.

Whilst it was disappointing the Commissioner was unable to attend we are encouraged by his words and that of his staff to the continuing efforts by the Victorian police Dept in or neighborhood.

It was also discussed that the CSWG  extend invitations to other prominent community leaders in the future and will advise you all when more information becomes available.

After considerable discussion, debate and inspection the rear doors of 253 Hoddle street will be permantly closed shortly until a solution can be found to improve security and access to this building.

Increased lighting has been installed to the walkway and access around the southern footpath of the building for the residents to enter from the car park.

The department has advised that this is a priority and are committed to fixing the problem around access and apologies for any inconvenience.

Good news has been reported across the Collingwood walkup properties, with the security upgrade on schedule with stage 2 being complete by the end of this year.

240 Wellington street is also reported to be on schedule with the foyer upgrade.

If you have any questions in regard to the security upgrades

Some things you can do now to improve your Safety and Security

Door to door salesman and women.

Whilst there is little the OOH or the Department can do to keep these people off the estate and knocking on our doors late at night we hope to have some stickers produced for those who request them.

DON’T KNOCK IF YOU’RE A SALESPERSON!

No organization or company has permission to knock on your door without prior consent or notification from the OOH.

We advise to all residents that you don’t let any sales person into your home unless you have requested them to attend !

Some sales people will say anything and promise everything.

In recent months they have been advising they are here officially to check on your concession to power and telephone accounts,

(They don’t!) This is just a trick to get your old bill and details.

They especially target the elderly and vulnerable, we will advise you all when the stickers become available.

If they knock just say no and close the door in their faces.

If you have a Safety or Security issue you would like to bring to the attention of the working group or you wish to add an agenda item to the next meeting, please contact
