Each year, the Making Links conference has a film festival component attached where we do a call out for previously created films made by organisations and members working within them. This year however, we would like to put a call out requesting that community orgs pick up a camera and in 3-5 minutes, tell us 'why your organisation is building a better world! (we have yet agreed on the theme, but something along these lines). With the rise in affordable consumer video equipment, producing a short film highlighting the work being undertaken by your org is now easily achievable and will probably take even less time than writing a grant. Through the messaging & communications we would like to focus on is 'why producing content and essentially narrative about your organisation through film is a clever way to attract more support'. We will be providing a step-by-step guide to make the process fun, simple, and sustainable. The selected films would screen as part of the Making Links Conference in Perth, Nov 2010 and would then be made available on YouTube & the Our Community site to enhance the Give Now section. Make Link would look at growing this the following year by interviewing the film festival participants on what the process of creating this film was like, etc. We could then also look at having awards for certain categories. ie: Best compelling personal narrative, etc etc. PS: The conference (Making Links:http://www.makinglinks.org.au/ - national conference where social action and technology converge) is organised by a coalition of organisations. Last year this comprised of AFAO, QUT, DonorTec, I.C.E., InfoXchange, Inspire, Vibewire Youth Inc, VCOSS, and WA Centre for Health promotion research. As you are probably aware, the conference changes cities annually. Perth will be hosting the conference in Nov 2010.
