Assessing the economic benefts of digital inclusion

The Digital Inclusion Initiative (DII) is a whole-of-community efort, spearheaded by the non-proft organisation, Infoxchange, and its eleven corporate partners.
The initiative is designed to eradicate the digital divide by providing access to computer hardware, software, afordable internet and user support for residents of public housing.

Access to employment is a critical factor contributing to an individual and a communities’ well being.   Strategies that focus on improving employment opportunities should focus on facilitating better access to existing employment opportunities as the majority of employment is secured through this way.  Many residents of neighbourhood renewal areas have little or no, work history and may lack confidence and skills to negotiate finding, or retaining a job.  Programs that work closely with residents in a supportive way to develop skills and confidence are a priority for

North Yarra Community Health first opened Youth Space on the Collingwood housing estate in May 2003.  This drop-in facility for young people aged 11 – 18 years, living in Collingwood public housing, has gone from strength to strength with increased numbers of young people attending and participating in activities, and, since 2005, an additional half-time youth worker provided by the City of Yarra Youth Services.

'A picture of Australia's children' is the third national statistical report on the health, development and wellbeing of Australia's children aged 0-14 years. Childhood, particularly early childhood, has become a key priority for governments and non-government organisations across Australia. This is in response to emerging issues of concern for Australia's children in the context of rapid social change, as well as compelling evidence about the importance of the early years for laying the foundations for children's future competence and physical and mental wellbeing.
